Feared by the Flock, Hated by the Wolf

WE-001

You know the police officer/warrior parable, “On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs” (if not we discussed it here and here) but have you ever wondered its origin? According to freelance writer JR Sanders, Wyatt Earp may have been the first to apply the analogy to American law enforcement.

In a 1896 San Francisco Examiner interview Wyatt Earp described the guard assigned to ride shotgun on a stagecoach, “He is like a sheep dog, feared by the flock and hated by the wolves.”

Truth never gets old.
